Cellfion is awarded €2.5 Million funding from the European Innovation Council

Cellfion is awarded €2.5 Million funding from the European Innovation Council highlighting EU’s commitment to PFAS-free membranes. Cellfion emerges among the 42 of 1083 companies after a thorough evaluation by the expert review panel.  

This grant represents a significant step forward for Cellfion, enabling the allocation of resources towards the development of production and operations focused on introducing cellulose-based membrane solutions to the market.  

Through the combination of high-quality functionalized nanomaterials and electrochemistry, Cellfion pioneers the way in industrializing ion-exchange and ion-selective cellulose membranes for the hydrogen, battery, and ion-separation sectors.

Cellfion announces strategic partnership with world-leading engineering company AFRY for a feasibility study dedicated to the production of the world’s first PFAS-free ion-exchange membranes made from cellulose.

This alliance brings together Cellfion’s expertise in cellulose-based membrane technology and AFRY’s esteemed proficiency in design, calculations, and engineering consultancy. By joining forces, we aim to push the boundaries of sustainable membrane solutions, pioneering cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities.

“We are proud to collaborate with a world leader in engineering for this exciting and innovative project. The production of functionalized cellulose films is a technology that can generate new high-value products for the traditional paper industry as well as produce highly demanded products for the battery, hydrogen, and ion-separation industries” says Liam Hardey, CEO at Cellfion AB.

The collaboration between the companies will accelerate Cellfion’s production development as the demand for PFAS-free alternative membranes increases due to the impending restrictions driven by the EU.
